Smaller home safes start at 6 pound (portable) and go up 500 to 800 pounds for much larger safes. These safes also may feature retardants which make them more difficult to move due to the possibility of damage.
Most commercial heavy safes can weigh anywhere from 2000 to 5000 pounds. This may be a deal breaker for some movers, even those who specialize in commercial moving, but Dearman can help you with these moves. We have forklifts and other machinery to help with these moves
Gun safes are no lightweights. Entry-level gun safes can weigh from 200 to 600 pounds. A mid-range safe goes from 600 to 1,000 pounds. High-end gun safes will weigh from 1,000 to 1,600 pounds. Bigger safes are heavy and are not easy to move, which requires you to hire gun-safe movers for all your needs. However, there are regulations that Dearman and other safe moving companies follow when moving guns. For example, we do not transport safes loaded with guns and ammunition. Instead, we advise that you store the guns in hard-shell cases and transport them this way. Furthermore, we do not transport loaded guns, which may cause undesirable accidents. Additionally, we require you to register all your guns and update your licenses before contacting us.

Some safes are the size of a small box where others are as large as a closet. The larger the safe, the heavier it is, the harder it is to maneuver, the more difficult it is going to be to move. We may also need more people, more equipment like a small crane or forklift (if the location accommodates) and size may also dictate the vehicle we use to transport the safe.
Most larger safes are located in a safe, secure place - typically in the basement of a home or in the back room of an office. The safe location will dictate what tools we can use or if we need to move the safe up or down flights of stairs. Safes are often bolted to the floor or wall, depending on the location. We highly recommend you take any steps, with safety in mind, to loosen bolts for a quicker removal and transport of the safe. At your destination, we will not install the safe but we can move the safe to its desired location in preparation for an appropriate installation.

Before moving your safe, ask yourself, is the vehicle you have big enough and able to carry the weight of the safe? It may be better to rent a vehicle with a hydraulic tailgate or ramp for an easier move. Additionally, we highly recommend renting a heavy duty dolly and moving straps.
