Safes are designed to prevent unauthorized people from being able to get to the items they hold. All safes are deliberately designed to keep intruders from gaining access by making is difficult not only to open them but also to prevent them from being physically removed from the owner’s property to be opened elsewhere.
While your safe is a must-have item in your home or business, though, it can be slightly inconvenient when it comes to moving. Any major size safe will weigh hundreds of pounds and also be shaped to prevent moving or breaking into it as close to impossible as design and manufacturing can make it. While security is the primary concern of the person or company that owns the safe and its contents, it does make moving a larger regular or gun safe very challenging.
Contrary to what you might see in movies or on television, safes are very difficult to drag, even with the best of packing and padding. Moving one without damaging the safe or its contents can be very problematic. This presents serious concerns with safes during local moves or long distance moves.
Dearman Moving and Storage has the experience, systems and personnel to manage virtually any type of local move. You, Your family, and your possessions will be treated with respect and care.
Dearman has a complete range of moving equipment that you can rent. Virtually any item you might need is available. We are a Penske truck affiliate and can take reservations for any size moving truck you may need.

Smaller home safes start at 6 pound (portable) and go up 500 to 800 pounds for much larger safes. These safes also may feature retardants which make them more difficult to move due to the possibility of damage.
Most commercial heavy safes can weigh anywhere from 2000 to 5000 pounds. This may be a deal breaker for some movers, even those who specialize in commercial moving, but Dearman can help you with these moves. We have forklifts and other machinery to help with these moves
Gun safes are no lightweights. Entry-level gun safes can weigh from 200 to 600 pounds. A mid-range safe goes from 600 to 1,000 pounds. High-end gun safes will weigh from 1,000 to 1,600 pounds. Dearman Moving has the experience and equipment to move virtually any gun safely. We can also manage to move any weapons that might need to be moved in a separate section of a regular moving vehicle. The different types of safes we move include:
Bigger safes are heavy and are not easy to move, which requires you to hire gun-safe movers for all your needs. However, there are regulations that Dearman and other safe moving companies follow when moving guns. For example, we do not transport safes loaded with guns and ammunition. Instead, we advise that you store the guns in hard-shell cases and transport them this way. Furthermore, we do not transport loaded guns, which may cause undesirable accidents. Additionally, we require you to register all your guns and update your licenses before contacting us.
Moving a safe is no easy task and every situation is different. While we have no set price to move safes, here are the various factors that go into estimate the cost of the move:
Some safes are the size of a small box where others are as large as a closet. The larger the safe, the heavier it is, the harder it is to maneuver, the more difficult it is going to be to move. We may also need more people, more equipment like a small crane or forklift (if the location accommodates) and size may also dictate the vehicle we use to transport the safe.
Most larger safes are located in a safe, secure place - typically in the basement of a home or in the back room of an office. The safe location will dictate what tools we can use or if we need to move the safe up or down flights of stairs. We have to account for the difficulty of the move and potentially a more dangerous situation.
Safes are often bolted to the floor or wall, depending on the location. We highly recommend you take any steps, with safety in mind, to loosen bolts for a quicker removal and transport of the safe. At your destination, we will not install the safe but we can move the safe to its desired location in preparation for an appropriate installation.
Depending on how far we have to move the safe, there are obvious time and gas expenses we need to account for. The further we need to travel to deliver the safe, the higher the cost.

If you are interested in moving a safe yourself, there are many precautions you should take before and during the move.
Before moving your safe, ask yourself, is the vehicle you have big enough and able to carry the weight of the safe? It may be better to rent a vehicle with a hydraulic tailgate or ramp for an easier move. Additionally, we highly recommend renting a heavy duty dolly and moving straps. A dolly is by far the easiest way to move a safe, although still very heavy.
We can provide both the safe moving equipment and vehicles you need for a DIY safe move.
